“There’s going to be a huge experience gap on the board,” said Terry, who has served on the board for eight years.
“I think it’s important that our history is known and that there’s an experienced member working with the board,” he said. “I’m the only candidate with that experience running for School Board right now.”

Chairman Roy Terry received unanimous board support for his alternative to give Marco Island $8.1 million to construct a new charter high school building. He persuaded the board to turn over more proceeds from the anticipated sale of the 11.5-acre Tract K, set aside by the island’s original developer for a school, toward the academy’s project.

Roy Terry attended Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College) where he graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Science. He went on to receive his Master’s in Education from Colorado State University in 1968. Roy has spent his entire career in education, beginning as a teacher and coach in Baltimore, Maryland. His last 35 years have been spent here in Collier County where he has served as a teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal, principal, and finally, Collier County School Board Member…
