Roy Terry

As the current Collier County School Board Chair for District 5, Roy Terry is both invested and committed to the future of Collier County Public Schools (CCPS) and the success of our next generation. For the past 39 years Terry has been a teacher, coach, athletic director, assistant principal, principal and Collier School Board Member.

Terry distinguished himself as a leader during his time on the School Board. He was involved with an agreement between the School Board & Greater Naples YMCA for daycare services at Veterans Memorial Elementary, he participated with Student Pathways Career Development, took an active role in advancing the administration at Everglades City School during a period of instability, and was active in the development in the 2014-2015 Final Budget.

Terry took his role as an influencer in Collier County Public Schools to an even greater level by helping with various construction and renovation projects. Terry implemented construction academies for Lely and Palmetto Ridge High, supervised Palmetto Ridge construction, he assisted with Lely’s athletic field renovation and he also developed Estates Community Fun Fairs for Palmetto Ridge High School.

Beyond Terry’s involvement in CCPS, he was an active member in civic and educational organizations over the years. He served on the board for YMCA of Collier County, Collier County Education Foundation and South Florida Center for Educational Leadership. He also served as Chairman for Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast, Past President for Naples Babe Ruth Baseball, he was Founder and President for Collier County Coaches Association and Past President for the Rotary of Immokalee where he is currently an active member.

Terry’s dedication to CCPS is evident to the people around him, earning him recognition as the 2001 District Principal of the Year and nominated as State Principal of the Year. In 2007 he was also recognized by Collier Building Industry Association for his work on construction academics.

Terry holds a Master’s Degree in Education from Colorado State University and a Bachelor’s Degree in Science from Western Maryland College (McDaniel College).

Terry resides in Naples with his wife, Helen Terry, of 55 years. Their two children graduated from Naples High School and he is the proud grandparent to four grandchildren; the oldest graduated from Palmetto Ridge High School.

Roy Terry has made a long term, significant, and very meaningful commitment to our children, our school and our community. Education needs to continue to have a spoken person and a leader who cares and knows the course to be taken for excellence.

Stephen Weisberg

Roy has demonstrated a commitment to provide the very best for all the children of Collier County. He will not fall prey to those in the community with narrowly defined, self-serving special agendas.
